I led the art direction and production for the Emmy Award-winning Netflix series We the People, executive produced by Barack and Michelle Obama.
We the People is a series of ten animated music videos designed to educate and inspire a new generation of young Americans about the power of the people.
For Episode 8, The Courts, I developed and executed a groundbreaking visual style. As the art director, I was responsible for defining the episode’s look and feel, ensuring it was both visually striking and thematically aligned with the series’ mission.
For Episode 8, The Courts, I developed and executed a groundbreaking visual style. As the art director, I was responsible for defining the episode’s look and feel, ensuring it was both visually striking and thematically aligned with the series’ mission.
I aimed to create a vibrant, optimistic aesthetic that would excite young audiences about civic engagement and the role of the courts in shaping their rights.
Art Direction
I led the art team throughout the production process, managing character design, background design, and overall artistic cohesion. This involved working closely with designers, animators, and producers to ensure a seamless blend of storytelling and visual execution. I provided clear creative direction, refined the visual language of the episode, and oversaw revisions to maintain consistency and impact. By fostering a collaborative environment, I ensured the team’s artistic contributions aligned with the narrative while pushing the boundaries of traditional civics education through animation.

Narrative Arc
Civics is a living, breathing aspect of daily life in the United States. Our story follows a day in the life of Kayla, a young woman living in Anacostia, a neighborhood in Washington, D.C. Through her journey, we highlight pivotal Supreme Court decisions that have shaped everyday life for Americans. The episode culminates with the 2015 Supreme Court decision Obergefell v. Hodges, which ruled that same-sex marriage is protected under the Fourteenth Amendment.
We end our story at the 2015 Supreme Court decision of Obergefell v Hodges, ruling same-sex marriage is protected under the 14th Ammendment.
