I led art direction and visual strategy for Medium’s Human Parts Magazine, a publication that explores what it means to be human.

Overview

From the mundane to the extraordinary to the downright weird, we’re here to explore what it means to be human. Human Parts is a publication that centers personal essays and stories featuring the imperfection and beauty of the human experience.

I developed a bespoke design direction that bespoke to the Human Parts voice.

Design Direction

The visual language of Human Parts communicated the beauty and imperfection of our humanity. We choise a typewriter font to representthe the subjective literary voice. A palette of warm tones to feel approachable and open minded.

Art Direction

The art direction strategy for Human Parts is inspired by the subjective literary voice. We constrcuted a visual system that adds voice, perspective, and subjectivity to a story.

We want editorial illustrations to represent an extension of the person behind the personal essay. The illustration roster contains styles that feel warm, textural, and hand-made.
