Native Advertising, Advertorial

2022

Say hello to local wildlife like manatees, bottlenose dolphins, loggerhead sea turtles and over 245 species of birds. From the moment you arrive, you’ll find one good day in Fort Myers leads to another.

Visit Fort Myer partnered with the New York Times to take readers on a journey of discovery, and invite them to experience the islands, beaches and neighborhoods of Fort Myers – the easygoing community that includes more than 100 islands, natural environments like mangrove forests, tranquil waterways and over 50 miles of natural white sand beaches.

As art director of the program, my role was to develop the visual direction of the campaign. Through the use creation of original editorial and custom photography, we produced a native advertising campaige to meet readers where they are.

Art Direction

The thrill of traveling starts well before the journey begins – it starts with a spark of excitement that evolves into a desire to discover new possibilities. The goal of the visual direction is to capture this desire to experience the islands, beaches and neighborhoods of Fort Myers, an easygoing community that includes more than 100 islands, natural environments like mangrove forests, tranquil waterways and over 50 miles of natural white sand beaches.

The campaign utilized docu-style photography to give readers a visual anchor to support the narrative experience. Images included portraits of the subjects as well as environmental details that place the story in a specific setting. The photography felt inspirational, vibrant, and crisp.

Moments will be captured true-to-life with natural lighting and little to no posing or stylizing. This method of photography feels authentic and helps draw the reader into the narrative environment. The emotional cadence of the images will feel bright and happy, and will leverage the beautiful beachy colors of Fort Myers.
